GREATER ST. CATHARINES COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE
Approaching Reality for St. Catharines & Thorold
St. Catharines and Thorold are beautiful cities that boast 1,000 acres of parks, gardens and trails, as well as one of the remaining canal downtown areas in Canada. However, one in three Niagara residents does not have a family doctor and for nearly every doctor coming into Niagara (between 10 and 15 per year), another is retiring or dying.
The Greater St. Catharines Community Health Centre (GSCCHC) has stepped forward to help address this problem. Beginning in 2007, a steering committee composed of local representatives and community leaders, as well as the hiring of a Community Development Consultant with the Association of Ontario Health Centres (AOHC) conducted the planning and community development phase. It was a multi-faceted process, designed to develop the population health profile of area residents, establish links with local health and social service providers to contribute their input to the development of and become actively involved with the GSCCHC. From that process came some key recommendations, including: catchment area, priority populations, programmes, potential services, staff and possible locations.
Community Engagement Report
This Final Report on the Use of Community Engagement Funds documents the research and community consultation carried out by the Association of Ontario Health Centres’ (AOHC) Centre Development Team, on behalf of the Steering Committee of the Greater St. Catharines Community Health Centre (GSCCHC) between October 2007 and March 2008.
